Oral Health - Toothbrushes and Mouth Wash

Tooth brushing is one of the most important aspects of good oral hygiene. Others include flossing, diet and visiting the dentist regularly.

Commonly asked question by patients are which brand or type of brush is best to use or which tooth paste should I use? Other common questions are what type of bristles should a toothbrush have and what is the correct method of brushing?

Majority of patient do not know how best to use floss or Interdental brushes (Incorrect use often leads to permanent damage to your gums and teeth). Used correctly, both are an invaluable tool to maintain good oral hygiene, fresh breath and healthy teeth.

Michelle qualified at Guys Dental Hospital as a Dental Health Educator and has experience in teaching oral hygiene to patients suffering from some form of oral dental disease.

Who should see the Oral Health Educator?

Patients of any age can see Michelle, the Practice Health Educator. Patients are usually referred to Michelle by their dentist or hygienist. The reason for this referral is to teach the patient the best way to maintain good oral hygiene, which will in turn prevent gum disease, tooth decay and eventual loss of teeth.

Children will particularly benefit for the referral as Michelle will motivate children on brushing, teach the correct technique of brushing from an early age, discuss dietary issues related to teeth and the use of disclosing tablets. This is invaluable for children and it can be almost guaranteed that their teeth will be with them for life if they maintain good oral hygiene and good dental diet from an early age.
