Raj qualified as a Medical Doctor from the University of Madras, India in 1977 and received a DA (Diploma in Anaesthetics) from the University of Madras and the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

At present, Raj is an Associate Anaesthetic Specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow, Essex.

During Raj’s career he has worked at several U.K. hospitals as a Staff grade and Registrar in Anaesthetics. Raj has spent a lot of his professional career in treating and caring for patients in intensive Care units (ICU) ranging from patients suffering from neurosurgery, blood disorders and liver disease. Raj particularly enjoyed and successfully treated post operative liver transplants patients and worked several devoted years at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead in this department.
